Today, we bid farewell to the leader of our Catholic Church, Pope Francis—a shepherd who walked with the people, a voice for the voiceless, and a tireless witness to the Gospel.
As we reflect on this profound loss, our hearts are drawn to the mystery of God’s love revealed in his life and mission. Pope Francis saw each person with the eyes of Christ and welcomed all with the embrace of the Father. His papacy will be remembered for its authenticity, humility, and unwavering call to mercy, justice, and care for the most vulnerable.
We share here the words of our General Superior, Fr. Mathew Vattamattam, CMF:
Dear brothers,
As we ponder the sorrowful news of today, our hearts are lifted to contemplate the wondrous ways of God, revealed through the life and death of Pope Francis. His journey among us was a living testament of God’s compassion and tender love for all humanity.
Gifted by the Lord with eyes that saw each soul as His own image, and a heart that embraced all with the tenderness of the Father, Pope Francis became a beacon of hope in our time.
How moving it was to behold him yesterday — frail yet radiant — blessing the world with Easter joy, circling St. Peter’s Square one last time to bestow a farewell blessing upon the people he loved with all his being.
He has fulfilled the mission entrusted to him with faithful and humble love. Let us give thanks for his luminous witness, and pray that the Spirit may raise up a successor who will continue to lead the Church along the path of renewal, ever inspired by the breath of the Living God.
May his memory continue to inspire us to live with greater compassion, simplicity, and courage.
