Plans are underway for a St. Jude Seminary all-alumni reunion on June 24th and 25th , 2023. Activities will be split between two venues, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (OLG) in South Chicago, coinciding with the 100th anniversary year of its founding; and Good Shepherd Manor (formerly St. Jude Seminary) Momence, IL. To date, twenty former Judeans from the Chicago area the East, Midwest and West have expressed interest in attending.
Activities on the afternoon of the 24th at OLG will include participation at a parish liturgy and a tribute to Bishop Emeritus Placido Rodriguez, CMF (SJS ‘59, former Pastor of OLG, former Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Chicago and retired Bishop of Lubbock, Texas). An evening meal will afford the opportunity to mingle and renew friendships.
On the afternoon of the 25th reunion participants will visit Good Shephard Manor to view the facilities, including recently renovated chapel, and grounds. Tentatively, Deborah Kanter, author (Chicago Catolíco) and historian, will discuss her forthcoming book on the history of the Claretians in the United States. A parting meal in the former St. Jude’s “refectory” will conclude the day’s events and the reunion.
Alumni, family members and friends are welcome to attend either one or both celebrations. If you would like to attend or for additional information, contact Charles Idarola, SJS ’65 at cidarola@gmail.com.
